A process for improving the dimensional stability of an organocellulose monocarboxylic acid ester film base for a photographic film comprises coating the film base with a solution in a mixture of ethyl acetate and isopropanol of a copolymer of equimolar proportions of maleic anhydride and at least one different addition polymerisable ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing a vinyl group unsubstituted at the a -carbon atom. Specified bases are cellulose acetate, propionate, acetate/propionate and acetate/butyrate. Specified comonomers are vinyl acetate, styrene, vinyl methyl ether, vinyl chloroacetate and ethylene. The substrates are coated on both surfaces, dried and then coated on one surface with an anti halation layer of gelatin and dye and on the other surface with an emulsion of silver chloride and bromide in gelatin. |
