[Also in Division G2] A thermocopier suitable for the production of hectographic masters comprises a hollow cylinder 11 permeable to infra-red radiation and containing a source of such radiation 21 and a reflector 20, a resilient pressure roller 10 cooperating with the cylinder, and guide means 38, 39 defining a feed slot 22 and adapted to guide the material 26 to be copied and a transfer sheet against the cylinder 11 upstream of the line of pressure E-F connecting the centres of the roller and the cylinder, the generally elliptical interior of the reflector directing the radiation through an opening in the reflector in a zone C-D, the centre line A-B of which is also upstream of the line E-F at the periphery of the cylinder 11. The ink on the material 26 is softened in the zone C-D and is transferred at the line of pressure E-F. The materials in a guide slot 27 may be cooled after printing by a blower as may be the roller and the cylinder. The leading and rear ends of each assembly passing through the slot 22 trip a switch 23 on and off in order to operate the radiator. The cylinder 11 is freely supported by the roller 10 and further rollers 4, 8, the cylinder and the roller 10 being frictionally driven by the roller 4. The roller 4 is driven from a motor 2 by a belt 3. Guide discs 32-35 hold the cylinder 11 laterally. The roller 10 is spring-loaded towards the cylinder 11. |
