PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent communication from becoming impossible, even if a fault occurs on a line forming a wide-area loop network. SOLUTION: Repeater stations 2 and centers 1 which are provided over a wide area are connected by an optical fiber 10 so as to form a loop. With this constitution, the wide-area network becomes a network having margin. Further, in sections in which base station 32 are provided, the stations 32 are housed via a network apparatus 31 by a branch network 3. When a fault occurs in the optical fiber 10, each of the repeater stations 2 and centers 1 switches connection to a clockwise or counterclockwise path, using a point where the fault occurs as a border, in order to avoid the influence of the fault. Also, even when a fault occurs in the optical fiber 11, the network apparatus 31 switches connection to the clockwise or counterclockwise path as a border, in order to avoid the influence of the fault.
