PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of the impossibility of obtaining a stable head output caused by the increase of spacing between a head and a tape near winding start and end points on a drum, in an information recording/reproducing device to and from a magnetic tape by a helical scanning system. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a first standard area section having a first track width in which first tracks 14A, 14C are held between second tracks 14B, 14D, and an additional area section having a track width larger than the first track width in which second tracks 14B, 14D are not formed on both sides of the first track over a specified length at a first track starting part. THe second tracks 14B, 14D are constituted of a second standard area section having a track width substantially equal to the first track width held between the first tracks 14A, 14C, and the width of a magnetic head is larger than that of the first standard area section.
