PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image signal and audio signal recording method and an image signal and audio signal recording and reproducing apparatus for increasing kinds of packs. SOLUTION: Header 8 bits of a pack are separated into high 4 bits and low 4 bits to form a hierarchical structure. Two hierarchies are composed of the high 4 bits as a high header and the low 4 bits as a low header, and further, the bits are expanded to the downside hierarchy by assigning bits of data. Contents of the pack are clearly systematized by such hierarchization and the expansion is facilitated as well. Then, 256 spaces composed of the high header and the low header are prepared as a pack header chart together with the contents of the pack. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
