Polluted materials are milled e.g. by hammer mill, prior to treatment with oxygen free radicals, e.g. by introduction of ozone to the material in a fluidized bed, or feeding oxygen-containing gas with application of high voltage discharge, microwave, or high frequency energy. An independent claim is included for equipment for decontamination by this process.
