The present invention relates to the use of a substance or composition comprising one or more proteasome inhibitors for the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of an individual infected with a virus selected from the group comprising varicella zoster virus, human cytomegalovirus, human herpesvirus 6 and 7 and Epstein-Barr virus and Karposi's sarcoma herpesvirus.
