PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation of knocking, drop of an engine output or excessive temperature rise of exhaust gas depending on an opening/closing condition of an air flow control valve. SOLUTION: An ignition timing command value ST to be used for ignition timing control is calculated based on the maximum lag ignition timing SR which is the ignition timing when the lag is performed by a predetermined lag margin from the knock limit on the advance side of the ignition timing, and lag-guarded by the maximum lag ignition timing SR. The knock limit is changed according to the change in the flowing condition of the gas in a combustion chamber 3 depending that an air flow control valve 16 is opened or closed. The maximum lag ignition timing SR is changed according to the opening/closing condition of the air flow control valve 16 so that the knock limit is shifted to the lag side over the largest lag ignition magnetic SR or is not brought too close to the maximum lag ignition timing SR, or is not excessively advanced to the maximum lag ignition timing SR.
