PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autofocus camera incorporating a sensor which is not only high in versatility and design flexibility but is easy in manufacturing and excellent in practicable use as well. SOLUTION: The autofocus camera provided with an automatic focus detecting circuit of a phase difference passive system uses a line sensor 1 consisting of C-MOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensors which are formed of continuous pixels and can output arbitrary pixels as a photodetector. The PD (Photo Detector) accumulated data of the line sensor 1 are inputted through A/D (analog-to-digital) circuits 3a and 3b to a phase difference calculating circuit 4 which detects the phase difference of the data accumulated in the right and left pixel arrays.
