PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate image recording and charging of a rechargeable battery without increasing the size and the manufacturing cost of an image recording apparatus which has the rechargeable battery. SOLUTION: The charging for which a charging circuit 7 for the rechargeable battery 5 is used is conducted in the case when a sleep control signal for a carriage motor driver 18 or a paper carrying motor driver 19 is detected and when at least either one of a carriage motor 24 and a paper carrying motor 25 is in a sleep state for saving power. When an instruction to conduct image recording is given in the course of the charging, the charging is suspended and the image recording is executed after the sleep state of the carriage motor 24 and the paper carrying motor 25 is removed.
