PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relieve a contact between the tips of a drive gear and a tooth-chipped gear when a transfer material cannot be supplied. SOLUTION: This sheet feeder comprises a feed gear 402 rotating a feed roller 203b for feeding the transfer material loaded on a tray from the tray, an input gear 401 meshed with the feed gear, a sheet feed motor 115b rotating the input gear, a rotation stop part 122 stopping the rotation of the feed gear when a tooth-chipped part is opposed to the input gear, a rotation energizing means to mesh the feed gear with the input gear by providing a rotating force to the feed gear when the rotation stop part cancels the rotation stop of the feed gear, and a drive control means having a control part for re-starting the sheet feed motor after temporarily stopping when the transfer material does not reach a specified position even if a specified time is elapsed after the rotation stop of the feed gear by the rotation stop part is canceled.
