PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acrylic sol composition which generates neither a hydrogen chloride gas nor dioxine when incinerated, undergoes no yellowing by heat, is safe and exerts no adverse effects on the environment by using a thermally expandable microcapsule which is free from a Cl group and a CN group and has a low environmental load, and a lightweight acrylic resin composition obtained by gelling by heat and expanding the same. SOLUTION: The acrylic sol composition comprises the thermally expandable microcapsule comprising a shell, comprised of a polymer obtained by polymerizing (1) an acrylate monomer and/or a methacrylate monomer, (2) a radically polymerizable monomer bearing a carboxy group and, if required, (3) a hydrophobic monomer and (4) a monomer as a component for adjusting a softening point, and enveloped therein, at least one volatile blowing agent gasifying at a temperature not higher than the softening point of the polymer.
