The cylinder has an elastic jacket (4) between end elements, which is shortened and expanded by internal pressure. The cylinder (1) contains an axial hollow adjusting rod (5), which is stationary relative to one end element (2), and moves through the other element (3). The end elements are radially supported relative to each other via the rod. The rod moves inside a guide tube (12), which is fastened to the second end element, and partially bridges the distance between the elements. The end of the guide tube has sliding guide bearings (13,17) for the adjusting rod. The adjusting rod supports a drive and/or working unit (31).
