The method determines at least one coordinate (12) of a structure (14) in the measurement area of a coordinate measuring device (10) mounted on a variable slope surface. The method involves detecting a measurement value for the at least one coordinate (12) and detecting a value for the slope of the measuring device. The measured value for the coordinate is corrected in dependence on the detected slop of the device. Independent claims also cover a coordinate measuring device.
