The present invention relates to the use of a water based fluid composition as a hydraulic fluid. The fluid composition is particularly suitable for conditions with temperatures lower than 0 DEG C. The fluid composition comprises from 1 to 60% by weight of trimethyl glycine or salts of a trimethyl glycine hydrate or derivativesof trimethyl glycine or mixtures thereof, from 40 to 99% by weight of water and optionally additives.
