1,006,673. Producing synthetic condensation polymer filaments. CELANESE CORPORATION OF AMERICA. May 28, 1962 [May 31, 1961], No. 20392/62. Addition to 979,342. Heading B5B. Filaments &c are produced by dissolving a difficultly meltable synthetic linear polymer containing repeating -CO.NR- groups in the molecule, where P is hydrogen or a monovalent organic radical in sulphuric acid of at least 80% by weight concentration and heating the solution for a period of time, whereby its gel content is reduced, before extruding the solution into an acidic liquid coagulant to form filaments &c. The polymer solution may be heated to 70‹ to 100‹ C. for a period between 30 minutes and 5 hours. The concentration of the sulphuric acid may be 95 to 100% by weight. The polymer solution may be extruded into an aqueous solution of sulphuric acid of 40 to 60% by weight concentration. The polymer may be a polymethylene terephthalamide in which the polymethylene groups contain 2 to 10 carbon atoms. Specification 979,342 is referred to. |
