摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high damping material which is made of a Cu-Al-Mn based alloy and has excellent damping properties, and to provide various springs which are obtained by using the damping material and have excellent damping properties. SOLUTION: The high damping material is made of a Cu-Al-Mn alloy. The alloy has a twin structure, and also has a dual-phase structure of an austenite (β) phase and a martensite (M) phase. The method of producing the high damping material comprises: an ingot forming step wherein raw materials containing Cu, Al and Mn as the main components are prepared, and are melted to form an ingot; a crude material forming step wherein the ingot is subjected to thermomechanical treatment consisting of hot-roll working and, successive to the hot working, of repeated cold working and annealing to obtain a crude material; a heat treatment step wherein the crude material is subjected to solution treatment, quenching treatment and aging treatment to obtain a heat-treated material in which the austenite (β) phase is fixed; and a strain imparting step wherein permanent strain is imparted to the heat-treated material.
