PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously producing dimethyl carbonate. SOLUTION: The method for producing dimethyl carbonate comprises (1) a first process for transesterifying ethylene carbonate (EC) with methanol (MeOH) to give a reaction mixture composed of MeOH, dimethyl carbonate (DMC), ethylene glycol (EG) and ethylene carbonate (EC), (2) a second process for separating the reaction mixture obtained by the first process into a low-boiling fraction containing MeOH and DMC and a high-boiling fraction containing EG and EC, (3) a third process for subjecting the low-boiling fraction obtained by the second process to extractive distillation in the presence of an extraction solvent to separate MeOH and circulating MeOH as a reaction raw material to the first process, (4) a fourth process for separating DMC from the high-boiling fraction recovered by the third process by distillation and circulating the recovered extracted solution to the third process and (5) a fifth process for separating EC from the high-boiling fraction recovered by the second process and circulating EC as a reaction raw material to the first process.
