A device and a method for the control of an internal combustion engine, in particular a diesel internal combustion engine are disclosed. Characteristic parameters are determined from a structural noise sensor which are used for control of the internal combustion engine. At least one parameter is determined by means of an analysis with a filtration which selects at least two angular ranges.
