The invention relates to a mechanism of the type that comprises a connecting rod (2), the head (3a) of said rod being connected to a crankpin (4) of a rotating crank and the base (3b) thereof being connected to a linearly-guided mobile element (6). The device comprises a travelling end stop (10) which is connected to a joint close to one end of the mobile element (6). The aforementioned travelling end stop (10) performs a to-and-fro movement between two flat opposing tracks (11) which are parallel to the direction of movement of said travelling end stop (10). When torsion stresses are applied to the mobile element (6), the travelling end stop (10) moves in contact with one or other of the above-mentioned tracks (11), thereby preventing or limiting the torsional deformation of the connecting rod (3) and/or the mobile element (6) and the presence of strains in the mechanism.
