<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently irradiate light onto the surface to be read for code reading, thereby facilitating code recognition. <P>SOLUTION: A code reader 10 reads a unique code 6 arranged in an object 5 from a reading part 11c in a housing 11. A plurality of lighting sources 18 in the housing are arranged to irradiate the surface 3 to be read, which strikes the unique code 6, and the reflected light is imaged by a CCD camera 15 through an incoming light aperture 9a. In this case, a light-reflecting member 12 for reflecting the light is arranged in the housing at the position in a predetermined angle to the incoming light aperture 9a.
