<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus which ensures high image quality and high versatility by enabling image formation on various recording mediums by preventing degradation in primary transfer performance, which results from a condition in which a peripheral speed ratio between an image holding body and an image transfer medium is changed with the thickness of a recording medium to be subjected to second transfer, at the primary transfer of a developed image from the image holding body to the intermediate transfer medium. <P>SOLUTION: A pressure drum 27 is rotated following an intermediate transfer drum 26. Thus, even if the apparent diameter of the pressure drum 27 is large at the transfer of a developed image to a thick recording medium P, the intermediate transfer drum 26 can be kept driven at a fixed angular velocity by an intermediate transfer drum servomotor 26b without being influenced by the pressure drum 27. Accordingly, the intermediate transfer drum 26 can obtain satisfactory primary transfer performance without a change in a peripheral speed ratio between the drum 26 and the photoreceptor drum 11 regardless of the thickness of the recording medium P. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
