PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital broadcast receiver in which handling can be made convenient by informing a character kind which can be inputted when a user inputs information, thereby preventing the user from performing wasteful operations, and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: A desired input field is selected from among a plurality of types of input fields being set based on received extension BML contents. A decision is then made as to whether only numerals can be inputted or characters, as well as numerals can be inputted for the input field thus selected, and if characters as well as numerals can be inputted, an icon 24 indicating to this effect is displayed.
