PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a horizontal filter plate type filter machine capable of preventing a fixation of other filter medium and an evaporation of a solvent while exchanging the filter medium and capable of tremendously lowering the height of the device while exchanging the filter medium. SOLUTION: A horizontal filter plate type filter machine 10 is provided with a plurality of filter plates 12 having a filter medium 12A filtering a raw liquid and being arranged by piling up on a base 11, an opening/closing mechanism 13 opening and closing the uppermost step of filter plates 12, and a lifting mechanism 14 lifting up the filter plates 12 by engaging with any one of the other filter plates in the state of lifting up the uppermost step of filter plates 12 by the opening/closing mechanism 13. And the lifting mechanism 14 is composed of a drive shaft 14A vertically arranged at the outside of each corner of the filter plates 12 respectively, an elevator 14B elevating along each drive shaft 14A, an oscillating drive mechanism 14C attached to each elevator 14B respectively, and an engaging pawl 14D engaging/disengaging with the filter plates 12 by oscillating in the horizontal surface mainly at the drive shaft 14A through each oscillating drive mechanism 14C and lifts up the filter medium 12A through the lifting mechanism 14.
