PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate monotonousness by imparting variations in a treatment stimulation by changing the speeds of rubbing/hitting motions, and to perform massages in which a user does not lose interest. SOLUTION: By a rubbing/hitting speed control method for a chair type massage machine, a pair of treating elements performing a massage for the body back side perform a hitting motion while simultaneously performing an approaching/separating motion each other by interlinking these motions. As a pair of the treating elements approach, the moving speed of the treating elements and the speed of the hitting motion are reduced. As the pair of treating elements separate, the moving speed of these treating elements and the speed of the hitting motion are reduced, or as the pair of the treating elements separate, the moving speed of these treating elements and the speed of the hitting motion are increased. Also, as the pair of the treating elements approach, the moving speed of these treating elements and the speed of the hitting motion are increased. Alternatively, the moving speed of the pair of the treating elements and the speed of the hitting motion are changed by a fixed speed variation from high to low at every time cycle.
