PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tamping unit for compacting a track part different in sleeper interval by a simplified method. SOLUTION: This tamping unit 1 is equipped with two tamping tine levers 4. These tamping tine levers 4 are supported on an assembly frame 6, and pivotally move around a pivot 5. The respective levers 4 are connected to a squeezing driving device 7, and are pivotally moved in the lengthwise direction 9 of a unit. One tamping tine lever 4 is arranged in order in the lengthwise direction 9 of the unit, and has an inside housing opening part 10 and an outside housing opening part 11 for selectively fixing a tamping tine 12.
