A machine for carrying out the operation comprises a horizontal wire straightening device 16, Fig. 6, horizontally slidable normal to the direction of passage of the wire, a horizontally and vertically adjustable wire guide 17, a cutting apparatus 18, and a wire guide 24. The cutting apparatus contains the cutter assembly 19 which is driven by a belt and gear drive 23. Guide 17 comprises a split bush 7, Fig. 4, and adjustable knives 11, 12, for splitting the outer skin of the plastics, prior to cutting by the cutter. |
