he present invention refers to a general method for the controlled induction of the division and developmnet of (plant and/or animal) cells, in single state or in clusters, tissues, organs and even whole organisms. The control of the division is achieved by regulating free radical concentration (and the general redox status of the cell, tissue, organ or organism) through chemical, biochemical and/or physical means. More specifically, the method is based on the artificail increase of intracellular accumulation of free radicals through the administration of oxidants, the partial degradation of biological membranes or the promotion of cellular metabolism (or the combination of these three treatments). The applications of the present invention comprise the modification of the growth of cells, tissues, organs and whole organisms used in agriculture, veterinary science, medicine and biology for both research and practical purposes. |
