The object of the present invention is to produce an optically active N-substituted azetidine-2-carboxylic acid by an efficient, expedient and commercially profitable process. The present invention provides a production method of an optically active N-substituted azetidine-2-carboxylic acid which comprises cyclizing an optically active 4-substituted amino-2-halobutyric acid in the presence of a base.
