An opening is formed between the outer surface of the roof (1) and a decorative edging (3) positioned laterally along the roof (1) of the car for the insertion of a short steel rope (6a), permanently joined to an interior component close to the roof (1) and put under tension by a spring (6c). A loop or bow (5) is attached to the outer end of the rope (6b) and is hidden behind the edging (3) when not in use. For use a hook belonging to a roof rack unit can be inserted into the bow (5) and is kept in position by the spring (6c).
