A portable information terminal, wherein when an operation dial (35) is rotated about a center button member (36), a high- speed scroll occurs and, when either of an upper button (42A) and a lower button (42C) is pressed by pressing the operation dial (35) in the rotating axis direction, a low-speed scroll occurs, whereby, by properly switching a scroll speed, information to be read can be properly involved in the display area of a screen with less number of operations and, since both the high-speed scroll and low-speed scroll can be performed by operating the operation dial (35), a member different from the member operated so far must not be operated to switch the scroll speed and, therefore, the scroll speed can be easily switched.
