PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of insufficiency of impact absorbing load in the case of relatively sliding a pair of tubes of a steering column for use in telescopic adjustment and impact absorption. SOLUTION: In this steering system 1, an inner tube 6 and an outer tube 5 of the steering column 4 are fitted to each other, and a pressed-in state of both tubes 5, 6 and a release state of releasing the pressed-in state are changed over by a telescopic adjusting mechanism 8. Telescopic adjustment is made in the normal release state, and both tubes 5, 6 are relatively slid in the pressed-in state when absorbing impact. The inner periphery 31 of the outer tube 5 is provided with an impact absorbing protrusion 40 . The impact absorbing protrusion 40 is normally spaced from the inner tube 6 whether both tubes 5, 6 are in the pressed-in state or not, and deformed abutting on the inner tube 6 to absorb impact when absorbing impact. The protrusion 40, and protrusion 41 for maintaining the press-in of both tubes 5, 6 make up for the insufficiency of impact absorbing load. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
