PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a serial type ink jet printer, which can achieve highly stable printing using a low-priced and large capacity ink tank. SOLUTION: A main tank is provided on a main body, and a sub-tank is provided on a carriage. A member which does not pass ink through the air located within the sub-tank is provided to remove the air by pushing or sucking it. Both a tube supply system and a pit-in system are usable.
