PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration in picture quality accompanying the movement of electrophoretic particles to other pixels. SOLUTION: An electrode 5b, an insulating layer, and partitions 2 are formed on a substrate 1d. Then, an insulating liquid 3 and electrophoretic particles 4 are dropped into each recessed part (pixel) partitioned by the partitions 2. Thereafter, a substrate 1a is stuck from the upper side, but when sticking it, the electrophoretic particles 4 are migrated on the side of the electrode 5a by generating an electric field between the electrode 6 and the electrode 5a. Thus, in the case of sticking the substrate 1a, the electrophoretic particles 4 can be prevented from flowing out even if the insulating liquid 3 overflows from each recessed part. Moreover, the electrophoretic particles 4 can also be prevented from being held between the partitions 2 and the substrate 1a and inhibiting the adhesion of them. And, the electrophoretic particles 4 can be prevented from moving to other pixels, and deterioration in the picture quality accompanying the movement can also be prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
