PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide laser whose output is stable, and whose output wavelength can be calibrated. SOLUTION: An external resonator laser having a predetermined atmosphere is disclosed. As one embodiment, the laser system has a gain medium (210) that emits a beam in response to the applied current, a wavelength selective reflector (240) structured such that it resonates the beam emitted from the gain medium, and chambers (205, 305, 505, 705, and 905) that contain the predetermined atmosphere. The chambers are optically connected to the gain medium and the wavelength selective reflector so that the beam emitted from the gain medium may go through the chambers. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
