A polymeric material comprises polyethylene-terephthalate (PET) modified with polyethylene-naphthalate (PEN) in ratios to produce a material having a higher softening temperature than that of PET. Transesterification between PET and PEN preferably occurs. The material preferably comprises between 10 and 40 weight-% PEN with the balance being PET. The PET and PEN are preferably dried before reacting them together while heating and mixing. The material may be extruded or injection moulded. Also claimed is a method of producing the material and an apparatus for the same. The material may be used as a building material, especially as a conservatory roofing material. |
