摘要 PURPOSE: A defect block substitution recording method for an optical disc system is provided to substitutionally record data of error correction block units recorded in defect areas of an optical disc tin a spare area integrally, thereby carrying out the data recording operation speedily and continuously. CONSTITUTION: A defect block substitution recording method for an optical disc system includes the steps of setting data recording mode as an optical disc is secured in the system(S10), and carrying out general data recording operation for recording data of error correction(ECC) block units to a data area(S11). The system detects a defect area in the data area(S12) by comparing a level of an electric signal reflected and photoelectrically transformed by the ECC block unit data with a preset reference signal level. If the defect area is detected(S13), the ECC block data recorded to the defect area is temporarily stored in a buffer memory(S14) and the general data recording mode is continued. If the general data recording mode is normally finished(S15), the ECC block unit data temporarily stored in the buffer memory is substitutionally recorded to a spare area integrally(S16).
