A computer agent supports design by identifying a property providing component for a product - generally an element for a combination (320). The agent receives desired properties (W, A, D) of the product from a designer, determines an existing product with existing properties (w, A) that correlate to the desired properties in a predetermined quantity (such as 2 of 3), and presents the existing product (310) to the designer.
