Novel compounds of the general formula wherein X is H or an alkyl radical, are prepared in a process which comprises reacting a compound of the general formula with ozone in a solvent which is inert to ozone to give the corresponding ozonide, this latter then being reduced with a reducing agent such as zinc dust and an acid or with dimethyl sulphide or trimethyl phosphite. Pharmaceutical compositions having antiinflammatory activity and containing the compounds defined above are administered orally or parenterally in association with a solid or liquid pharmaceutical carrier or diluent.
