An internal door handle assembly comprises a latch release flap 7 pivotally mounted in a recess in a mounting 1 and a locking flap 12 pivotally mounted for manual operation and connected by a linkage to another locking member; the flap 12 being pivoted to engage the end of the flap 7 to prevent engagement by the fingers and so prevent manual operation to release the latch. An overcentre spring holds the locking member in position. External release of the latch is also prevented by a linkage 14 connected to the flap 12. The flap 7 is connected by an arm 9 to a release link 10 to connect the exterior handle to door latch mechanism. In an alternative construction, the locking flap is slidable between side walls of the flap 7 which has an opening into which an operating knob of the slidable flap extends. In looking position the locking flap extends beneath the opening preventing insertion of the fingers for pivoting of the release flap 7 to release the latch and a projection on the end of the slidable member engages under the end of the flap 7. The slidable flap is connected by a linkage to another locking member the linkage comprises a pivoting lever having a stud engaging in a slot in the slidable flap the stem of the stud moving in a slot in the mounting base. The external locking device may be in the latch mechanism or in an external handle which has an external push button operated by a key or rendered inoperative by the locking linkage.
