PURPOSE: An emergency operation control method of an air conditioner is provided to give a customer improved satisfaction by executing operation of a safety mode under operational conditions although the system is stopped by the operation of a safety device of the air conditioner. CONSTITUTION: An emergency operation control method of an air conditioner comprises steps of comparing a value detected from a detecting unit with a predetermined reference value and operating a safety device(104); stopping the operation of a compressor by a signal of a control unit if the safety device is operated(106); and determining a possible area of operation in the system and maintaining a normal operation state if the operation of the system is in a normal state. The system executes an emergency operation mode by user's input or a system set mode(102) and executes a safety mode operation in the possible area of operation in the system(108). The operating state of the safety is determined although safety mode operation is executed(110). The safety mode operation is released if the safety device works again and the operation of the air conditioner is stopped(112).
