PURPOSE: An operation control method of an air conditioner is provided to immediately stop driving of an indoor unit by determining an instantaneous power failure if a zero cross sensing omission signal is produced consecutively over a predetermined number of times. CONSTITUTION: An operation control method of an air conditioner comprises steps of driving the air conditioner to execute a heating and cooling cycle of the air conditioner(200); determining whether the alternating current power supplied to an outdoor unit is rated 50Hz(210); increasing the period of a timer by 10ms to determine whether an omission signal is consecutively detected at a zero cross position(220); removing the number of times of the timer if the omission signal is sensed during the period of 10ms(230); cutting off power applied to the outdoor unit and stopping the driving of the air conditioner by determining an instantaneous power failure happened if the removed number of times is more than the number of times of multiplying n by 2 (250); increasing the period of the timer by 10ms, to determine whether the omission signal of the number of times of multiplying n by 2 is continuously detected at the zero cross position(260); and removing the number of times of the timer if the omission signal is sensed during the period of 10ms(S270).
