PURPOSE: A bidirectional line protection switching method of a transmission system is provided to immediately switch without waiting for a response message of a remote equipment after a local equipment transmits a switching request message to the remote equipment, thereby smoothly performing a line switching operation even when a reserved line fails. CONSTITUTION: In an initial state(S1), a local equipment transceives data with a remote equipment, and checks whether a current operation line fails(S2). If so, the local equipment decides whether a reserved line fails(S4). If so, the local equipment transmits a switching function request message through a normal transmission channel(S6). The local equipment is immediately switched without receiving a response message from the remote equipment(S7). A working equipment of the remote equipment receives the switching function request message, and is switched even without a switching command message(S8). The local equipment decides whether a current system failure is recovered(S9). If so, the local equipment retransmits the data in a current mode(S10).
