PURPOSE: A filter drier for a heat exchanger is provided to prevent damage of absorbent even when alternative refrigerant whose pressure is higher than usual is used. CONSTITUTION: A filter drier comprises a first filter part(30), a second filter part(32) and absorbent(70) placed in a tube(20) to remove moisture and foreign matters contained in refrigerant circulating in a heat exchanger; a supporting part(40) fixed near the second filter part, and having a plurality of penetrating holes formed thereon; an elastic member, a spring(50), having one end fixed to the supporting part; and a compression part(60) fixed to the other end of the spring, having a penetrating hole whose diameter is smaller than diameter of the absorbent, and pushing the absorbent toward the first filter part. The supporting part is forcibly inserted into the tube. The compression part is under tension of the spring to push the absorbent toward the first filter part so as to prevent formation of an empty space in the absorbent even when some of granules of the absorbent are broken.
