PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel and a method for the same are provided, which utilize a switching part having a low pressure resistance by reducing a voltage required for the sustain discharge to a half. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel includes a first driving part(310) and a first clamping parts(330). The first driving parts(310) includes a first and a second switching parts connected to a first power for supplying a first voltage and one end of the panel capacitor(Cp) in serial and a third and a fourth switching parts connected between the other end of the panel capacitor(Cp) and the second power for supplying a second voltage. And, the first clamping sensors(330) includes a fifth and a sixth switching parts connected between the contact point between the first switching part and the second switching part and the contact point between the third switching part and the fourth switching part and the contact points are connected to the third power for supplying the third voltage.
