1,037,890. Bags with tear strips. QUAKER OATS CO. Nov. 12, 1964 [Jan. 20, 1963], No. 46210/64. Heading B8K. A tear strip 18 (Fig. 2) is heat scaled at 19 to the side walls of a bag to form a 3-ply closure, with a portion 21 left unsealed to form a grip tab. The tear strip 18 may be rectilinear extending wholly or partly across the top of the bag mouth or in the case of a two compartmented bag (Fig. 8, not shown) it may be positioned centrally so that each compartment may be opened independently. In another embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) the tear strip extends diagonally across the edge of the bag. An arcuate tear strip 28 (Fig. 5, not shown) may be used. A projecting point may be positioned centrally in the weld so that the tear starts at the point and proceeds away from it in both directions. The top edges of the bag, which is preferably made of polyothylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride or cellulosic films, may be gussetted. The panels of the bag need not be aligned. |
