SUBSTANCE: proposed ion mobility spectrometer noted for more rectilinear path of ion transit through nonlinear drift area obtained due to improved characteristics of electric field as result of elongating retaining rings toward nonlinear drift area uses improved retaining ring with extensions toward nonlinear drift area. Each extension is made in the form of disk mounted longitudinally in center of retaining ring. As an alternative, retaining ring has a number of projections in inner space running to center of ring but not reaching this center. EFFECT: enhanced resolving power of spectrometer. 14 cl, 7 dwg
