The invention relates to a method for producing carbonyl compounds. The inventive method is based on the reaction of oxidation of di- and polyene cyclic hydrocarbons and the derivatives thereof into corresponding carbocyclic unsaturated ketones and into di- and poly ketones by means of nitrogen oxide or the mixture thereof with an inert gas. The process is carried out at a temperature ranging from 20 DEG C to 250 DEG C and a pressure of nitrogen monoxide of 0.01-100 atm. Said method ensures a high selectivity with respect to target products, explosion safety at production and is promising for industrial use.
