FIELD: steam generating power units, mainly those using nuclear fuel (steam- water nuclear reactors). SUBSTANCE: proposed fuel element designed for use in power installations of high thermal stress has internal energy source (for instance, nuclear fuel) that has periodic structure of alternating active zones incorporating energy source and inactive zones filled with inert ballast. Period L with active and inactive zones alternating through its length is chosen within interval L = 1-100 of effective sizes of its sectional areas (diameters). Preferred values are L>(lambdaD/alpha)1/2, where lambda is effective coefficient of fuel element heat conductance; D is effective diameter of fuel element sectional area; alpha is coefficient of heat-transfer from fuel element surface to boiling liquid medium. Active-to-inactive zone length ratio ranges between 0.1 and 1, preferable being 0.5 1 range. Inactive zones are filled with inert ballast of ceramic materials, such as aluminum, titanium, zirconium or silicon oxides or metals, such as various steels or zirconium. EFFECT: enhanced stability of fuel element to local disturbances. 2 cl, 2 dwg |
