PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve gap controllability of a liquid crystal display panel. SOLUTION: A panel gap of a display area of the liquid crystal display panel, which is formed at the spacing between a first and a second substrates, is controlled by only two kinds of gap materials dispersed into a sealing material at the outer periphery of the panel. The two kinds of gap materials are made of a first gap material, consisting of particles softer than an insulation film and wiring which are respectively disposed on the first substrate and a second gap material consisting of hard particles. If it is defined thatσ<SB>1</SB>≥σ<SB>2</SB>and (x<SB>1</SB>+3×σ<SB>1</SB>)-(x<SB>2</SB>+3×σ<SB>2</SB>)=Δh, where x<SB>1</SB>and x<SB>2</SB>are the mean particle sizes of respective gap materials,σ<SB>1</SB>andσ<SB>2</SB>are the standard deviations, andΔh is the level difference formed by the insulation film and the wiring located in the lower sealing material.
